Finding quality makeup that works for you can be very hard sometimes. Over the years I have tried a multitude of products and I have finally found some of my favorites. Here are some of my favs!
For a glowy and dewy look I have been loving the L’Oreal True Match Lumi Foundation. It has great coverage while not making me look cakey. I have normal to oily skin, typically only being really oily in my T-zone (your forehead, nose, and chin). This foundation is great at keeping my skin looking dewy and moisturized while also not making me look like a greasy piece of pizza.
I recently ordered this Coty AirSpin Loose Face Powder in “translucent” and it has impressed me thus far. I just hopped on the “baking” bandwagon and this powder is working miracles for me (s/o to MoPhilly for introducing me to this). Baking my face is help my concealer not crease and keeps my foundation looking flawless longer. If you do not know what baking is, it is applying a large amount of powder on the areas you would normal like to highlight (under eyes, nose, forehead, chin) and letting the powder sit for 10-15 minutes. After the time has passed, I take a big powder brush and dust away the excess powder. The point of the baking process is to elongate your foundation’s wear and to keep areas matte throughout the day. For those who do not like the smell of baby powder, I would highly recommend NOT to buy this since the smell is strong. If you are looking for a great pressed powder I would point you towards the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder which is super cheap and a great drugstore powder.
My absolute favorite concealer has to be the Maybelline FIT ME! concealer. It is a total game changer and is often compared to the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer which is almost 6x the price! I generously apply the concealer in an upside down triangle and blend under my eyes and it instantly covers my dark circles. I have this concealer in a few other colors to help covers blemishes and to highlight under my eyebrows too.
The Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Matter Bronzer has also been one of my ride or die products. This seriously lasts forever too so you definitely get a bang for your buck. I think I have had mine for 2 years and it still has a lot of life in it. I like it because it is very bendable and the color looks natural. The color isn’t too orange and “Cheeto” looking nor is it too brown so you look like you took a mud bath. The hard part about drugstore foundations is that they often look too orange so your best bet is buying a higher end bronzer. The other thing that I love about this bronzer is that it does not have glitter in it. I already use highlighter so I don’t need any extra glitter.
I have been using the same Mac Mineralize Skin Finish in “Soft & Gentle” for I do not even know how long. This product has lasted me years and the quality is still as great as the first day I purchased it. It gives my skin a nice glow without looking too much like a disco ball. Some days when I want my skin to look extra glowy I will use a cream highlighter and set it with my powder highlight. Finding a good color highlight can sometimes be difficult but just by swatching colors on your hand at the store can help a lot to see what looks best with you skin tone.
Recently I picked up the Ulta Velvet blush in “Princess”which one of my favorite YouTubers, Casey Holmes, constantly raves about. So far, I have loved how it looks on my skin and have no complaints. The shade is a peachy-golden color that looks great on tan skin especially. It was only $9 but Ulta is constantly having buy one get one 50% off sales on their house makeup brand which is always a plus.
For eyebrows I have used the Anastasia Eye brow pencil. You do have to sharpen it which can be a pain for some but it is a life changer. The shade I use matches perfectly to my hair color which makes me even more obsessed. The product sets nicely and does not fade or smear throughout the day. I always set my eyebrows with eyebrow gel, but this doesn’t have to be fancy – a simple drugstore product will do.
I am ALL about eyeshadow palettes. They are the best way to get a bang for your buck. Some of my favorite palettes are the Morphe 35O – 35 Color Nature Glow Eyeshadow Palette (super cheap and amazing quality), The original Naked Palette by Urban Decay (OG makeup palette), and the create your own MAC Cosmetics Palette. The Morphe palette has been all the rage lately and luckily I was lucky enough to receive it for Christmas. The Naked palette I have had since middle school and it is still going strong. Making my own MAC eyeshadow palette has been one of my favorite things about the brand. Once you buy the MAC compact, which I believe is around $8-10, you can fill the palette with any MAC eyeshadows that you choose. The eyeshadow pan refill prices just dropped to $6 (I’m freaking out), which is literally the price of most drugstore shadows.
I am always rocking the winged liner look. I love the retro glam look it gives as well as executing my eyes. The liner I have been using lately has been the NYX Matte Liquid Liner in black. I’m not really a fan of shiny eyeliner and this one dries perfectly matte which I LOVE. It is super easy to apply once you get the hang of it too. Pro tip: If you put a piece of tape (yes, tape) from the outer corner of your eye to the end of your eyebrow, it makes the perfect guide to create a beautiful wing.
Ever since I started wearing makeup, I have used the same mascara. The L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara in “Carbon Black” has been my ride or die from the beginning. It does an amazing job of making my lashes look longer and bolder which is always the look I am going for. You really can’t go wrong with any drugstore mascara. Covergirl and Maybelline make amazing mascaras that are affordable. Usually I use two mascaras: L’Oreal Voluminous and whatever other drugstore mascara I have on hand.
This is where it gets hard. I am absolutely obsessed with lipstick and really can’t pick only a few. MAC lipsticks never let me down. Their pigmentation and color selection is ridiculous and I have officially become a hoarder of them. My top 5 favorite shades are: Flat Out Fabulous, Velvet Teddy, Heroine, Rebel, and Captive. I highly recommend checking them out! Another new favorite lip brand has been Colourpop. Their matte liquid lipsticks have blown me out of the water and I am a huuuuuge fan of them. I love wearing these for a night out since they do not budge which means I don’t have to reapply. Not to mention, they are only $6.
The best way to ensure that your products look their best is by applying them with quality tools. I have owned my Sigma Beauty Brushes for 5 or 6 years now and they have been completely worth every penny. I own the Essential Brush kit, and though the price may seem steep, they have lasted me very long. My other favorite tool has been my Beauty Blender. When I first asked for this for Christmas my mom was very confused as to why she was spending $20 on a sponge, BUT don’t nag it till you try it. This sponge was sent from the heavens and it beautifully blends my foundation and concealer. The best way to use it is to first run it under water, then dry it off so it soaks up the water instead of your foundation.
WHEW, that was a long one. I hope you stuck around and I hope this helped anyone who is in need of some new makeup products! Please comment your favorite makeup products/brands down below!
